Kinsman Redeemer Guaranty Fund
If a fellow countryman of yours becomes so poor he has to sell part of his property, then his nearest kinsman is to come and buy back what his relative has sold. (Leviticus 24:25)
The Kinsman Redeemer Fund is a guaranty pool funded by philanthropic Christian investors and donors and held and administered by National Christian Foundation (NCF) through a donor advised fund and supporting organization structure. The Kinsman Redeemer Fund will provide targeted financial guaranties to support women and minority-owned small businesses, employment social enterprises, workforce affordable housing and enterprise community centers benefiting low and moderate income families and individuals. The enhanced financial credit provided by the financial guaranties would allow these community initiatives to access capital from local lenders, CDFIs and other investors.
In the Bible, “kinsman redeemer” is the relative who restores or preserves the full community rights of disadvantaged family members. The concept arises from God’s covenant relationship with Israel and points to the redemption of humanity in Jesus Christ. The Kinsman Redeemer Fund is an opportunity for Christ-followers to steward financial resources with the goal of restoring and preserving low-income neighborhoods and communities of color which have been disproportionally affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent economic recession because of the historic societal inequities.
